But here at WriteNow!? Here we have rules. I'm not a good rule-maker, I admit, but I'll get started.
1. Be nice. Writers are even more sensitive than people. (Wait, don't leave, that's a joke.) Be kind to your fellow writers. We all need healthy criticism and we all hate it. When you give it remember, your turn's coming.
2. No outrageous or gratuitous profanity. Most of the time if you're resorting to it you're just demonstrating your lack of writing skill. Besides, it's ugly and there's enough ugly in the world already. We encourage young writers to participate here and they need to see and practice disciplined writing, not vacuous ranting.
3. No porn or near-porn or graphic sexual depiction. Yes, you can argue that it is protected speech but you'll have to argue it somewhere else. It's not protected here.
4. No discrimination against any groups or the promotion of discrimination against any groups. Writing about discrimination and the harm it does and your personal or imagined experiences with it? Yes, that we encourage.
5. No commercial solicitations without written permission. If I'm not making any money at this, why should you?
6. No plagiarizing. What's the point? If you use someone else's words, give them credit and keep this to an unavoidable minimum.
Offenses? On the rare occasions that there may be an offense it will likely be inadvertent, an oversight. That will probably get you an edit and a reminder. Repeated offenses will likely get you suspended from the site for a while.
Third offense and the writer's membership will be revoked and you will be added to our as yet non-existent "Wall of Idiots". If any offense is particularly ugly or egregious I reserve the right to suspend or revoke at any time. If your offense really, really irritates me, I'll come over to your house and slap you upside the head. OK?
That's all I can think of for now. I want to encourage writers, not stifle them, and WriteNow! will always be a safe place for all writers to share and hang out.

Now these are some rules I can appreciate, understand and live with. I like them all except the slapping up side the head, especially since I live in the same house with the potential slapper. I must say I haven't seen and head slapping from him so far so (except for his own head once in a while). I think I'm pretty safe. Nevertheless, I will do my best to avoid the really egregious offenses. After all, I don't want to be on the "Wall of Idiots". Can we nominate people for the wall? Non-members, of course. Edythe
