WriteNow!

Writers write ... right here, right now

Copyright law can be confusing. Do I have one? Do I need one? How do I get one?

WriteNow! does not offer legal advice about any subject and certainly not about copyrights. That doesn't prevent us from talking about it, though. If you think you need copyright advice then get a copyright lawyer. Like firemen, sometimes nothing else will do.

Copyright law is found in the United States Code, Title 17. Cornell University makes the law available to you HERE.

The United States Copyright Office has a terrific site HERE.

Massachusetts attorney Dr. Ronald B. Standler has a lengthy technical discussion of copyright law HERE.

There's an interesting but less technical article titled "10 Big Myths about copyright law explained" HERE.

There are lots of internet discussions of copyright law. Be careful of glib advice or advice that sounds too good to be true. You get what you pay for.

We will never claim any ownership right to anything you post here. Should we ever want to publish in some other format (we have some fun ideas about that, see the discussion Should WriteNow! Publish? here in the lounge) we'll ask your permission first. If you decline, fine. If you accept, I think you'll enjoy it. End of story.

OK, your turn. What do you have to say
